We’re all thrilled to open the golf course this weekend. As Carl noted in his email last Friday, there will be some additional disruption as Chad and his team repair winter turf damage in various locations. It’s been a long winter and rather than delay the course opening, we thought it preferable to open for the weekend.
We’ll send out a member email on Thursday and update member central laying out how the course will play over the weekend.
This spring Chad and his team have also been able to address more of the areas damaged by the Ice Storm last spring. Due to the amount of damage to in-play areas and treelines last year, we didn’t have time to address areas within the tree lines. This spring we focused on the forest area between #8 and #9, this area was hit particularly hard and there were still many damaged and dangerous trees. It is also an area Bob Cupp had recommended for selective clearing to expose views. In order to clear the damaged trees, we also removed much of the underbrush and have exposed the spectacular view of the pond on #9 which Bob Cupp had envisioned. I think you’ll enjoy this new vista.

This past Saturday, we held our annual Staff Orientation. One of the final steps as we head towards Opening Day later this week. We have a great crew for this year which includes many familiar faces, and a few new ones. They are as eager as you are to get the season started!
A reminder, the practice range will open on Wednesday, April 29
th at 10:00am, and close at 7:00pm. We will be on mats to start the season, and the short game and practice greens will remain closed until the course opens later in the week. The golf course will open on Friday, May 1
st with tee times beginning at 9:00am. I will send out an email on Thursday outlining where the construction crews will be working and how the course will play over the weekend.

The weather so far this spring continues to be less than ideal, this delayed the start up of the irrigation installation waiting for the temperatures to rise so the glue cures correctly and damage the existing turf. Despite the cool and wet conditions, the bunker crew at 18 and the practice chipping green were able to start on time and remain on schedule. We hope to have a few good weeks here to get the irrigation team back on track.
Excessive rain events and cold temperatures have also put us behind the 8 ball in preparing the golf course for the spring season, please be patient as we prepare the course for the spring season.

With the Masters and the RBC Heritage in the books, it is clear that the golf season at Mad River is right around the corner. In fact, balls will be in the air in a few short days. There’s nothing quite like the anticipation of the new season!
This week’s Post will be somewhat repetitive, but there are some important dates you should be aware of as we get the season going. If you are planning to play in our opening event, season long events and / or wish to participate in our Men’s Member-Guest (MMG) event on July 24th you will find some details below.

A Little Something About Service
At Mad River, service is something we talk about often—but more importantly, something we truly enjoy.
As we begin the season, we are pleased to welcome you back to a beautifully refreshed clubhouse and sunroom—spaces designed for comfort, connection, and enjoying your time at the Club.
You’ll often hear our team described as friendly and genuine, and that’s not by accident. It’s something we take pride in and continue to build together. Whether it’s a warm greeting as you arrive, remembering your go-to drink, or simply checking in at the right moment, our goal is always the same—to be of service in a way that feels natural, not scripted.
Behind the scenes, we spend time talking about what great service really looks like. More often than not, it comes down to small, thoughtful moments—anticipating needs, paying attention, and creating an environment where you feel comfortable and taken care of.

Notes from the Chef Stephen Sagar
As we move into spring, the kitchen is coming back to life with the fresh flavours and ingredients that define the season. Lighter fare, vibrant produce, and familiar favourites return as we prepare to welcome everyone back for another great year of golf and dining.
Alongside our traditional Friday Fish & Chips feature, we are introducing something new this season: our “Souperman Takes Flight” Friday special. Each week, we will showcase a trio of soups, offering a curated flight that highlights a range of flavours, types and seasonal inspiration.
Just a friendly reminder all dues are due no later than April 30th.
Please check your online account for any outstanding balance.

Throwback Tuesdays - Where it Began

This photo appears to be taken from the 9th green, overlooking the newly formed pond.
Across the pond, you can make out the early outline of what will become the putting green, still in its rough shaping phase. On the far-right side of the photo, the land appears cleared and leveled, this is the location for the future clubhouse. In the far distance you can see the maintenance facilities in their current location.
