The opening reception was a fabulous evening of socializing, it almost felt like two parties, one in the dining room and one in the sunroom. The atmosphere was positive, member feedback on the refreshed spaces was extraordinary and there was a universal excitement to wrap up the on-course projects this spring and get back onto #6, #12 and #17.

Despite the cool conditions, it was nice to get the course open over the weekend and welcome so many members back to the Club.

Project Updates

It was another cool week, but excellent progress was made on the bunkers on #18. All the drainage and gravel was installed and the surrounding sod was laid on Saturday. This week, if the weather permits, the better billy polymer will be sprayed, and then they can start installing the new sand. The polymer must be applied in dry conditions, so any rain will require them to wait until the weather permits. We are hopeful they will be finished by May 15th.

The irrigation team finished up on #8 last week and laid mainline from #18 up to the clubhouse. This week they plan to install irrigation on #9.

In the clubhouse we wrapped up most of the work, including the installation of the second AC/heating unit in the sunroom. We’ll have the lower-level carpet installed this week and I’m still awaiting a date for installation of the folding door/window in the sunroom.

It was great to see the course back open this past weekend and to see so many members enjoying the club. After a very long winter of hitting balls indoors, there is nothing better than feeling some solid contact and watching the ball fly with our beautiful backdrop. I have said it before, this time of year, I often hear members say they played great. This can be tied to playing with zero expectations and simply enjoying being outdoors again. I know it is hard to do, however, staying in this mindset all season long will serve you well for those looking to lower their handicap.

A Wonderful Start—Thank You
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Spring Thaw Cocktail Party. It was a pleasure to welcome so many of you back into the beautifully refreshed clubhouse and to hear such positive feedback on the new space. Seeing members gather, connect, and enjoy the space-whether at the bar, around the beautiful wood tables or relaxing in the lounge made for a truly special start to the season.

Cupp’s Corner—Comfort Meets Convenience
With the enhancements to Cupp’s Corner and the surrounding space, we’ve created an environment that supports both efficiency and ease for our members. Whether you’re making a quick stop between nines or grabbing something before heading out, the new lounge seating provides a convenient spot while your order is being prepared. The updated layout and service flow allow our team to move with greater pace during busy periods—while remaining attentive and ready to be of service.

This same focus on quick, convenient service between nines continues with our open-air, grab-and-go fridge, where members can easily view all available selections and quickly choose an item to sign out—ideal for a seamless stop at the turn. For an even smoother experience, ordering ahead through the Mad River app ensures your items are ready upon arrival. As Carl mentioned last week, simply download the updated version by searching “Mad River Golf Club” through your app provider, allowing you to place your order in advance, much like booking a tee time.

Notes from the Chef Stephen Sagar

A sincere thank you to everyone who joined us for the Spring Thaw event. It was a fantastic way to kick off the season, and the energy in the room made it clear how much we’ve all been looking forward to getting back together. Your support and enthusiasm set the tone for what promises to be a great year ahead.

Celebration of Life
Morley and Sandra Arnason

Please join us Sunday May 24 from 2-4 pm at Devil's Glen Ski Club for a celebration of life for Morley and Sandra Arnason.  Morley and Sandra passed away peacefully together in late January after 67 wonderful years together.  We will gather to remember, exchange stories, and celebrate their extraordinary lives.  If desired, donations can be made to the Canadian Arthritis Society, of which Morley was a former Chair, or to a charity of your choice.
