Course Closure
It’s been an extraordinary albeit bizarre summer. Chad and his team have presented the golf Course magnificently as always and preliminary results from the survey confirm this with extraordinarily high course condition satisfaction levels.

An important reason for our magnificent conditions is the maintenance strategies Chad employs, some of which aren’t always popular, but they are effective, such as greens aeration in August and fall closure.

This year we are planning for November 1st to be the final day of play. Chad outlines the many agronomic reasons for this in his Mad Post article.  Additionally, given the colder temperatures we know are coming, frost and limited daylight hours we know it’s the right decision to make. We’ve had a remarkable 2020 and it’s time to focus on 2021.

Overview

Its hard to believe that it is mid-October already, this time of year is more important than ever to take care of your golf course.  Any divots and ball marks that are left unrepaired give poa an opportunity to invade.  Please replace divots if at all possible, rather than fill with sand and seed, unless your divot explodes and cannot be replaced.  And always fix your ball marks on greens, even when you hit the green and roll off the back or the side.
We have now started to prepare your golf course for one of the most stressful times of the year, winter.  All of our fine turf areas will be or have been top dressed prior to winter to help protect the crown of the plant.  This helps to protect the plant from wind, ice and just plain cold temperatures.  Topdressing will continue through the rest of the fall season.
