Host Club Tournament Chair for the Canadian Women’s Mid Am Championship.
Canadian Women’s Mid-Am Followup Congratulations to three time winner - Judith Kyrinis and her Mad River caddie Rick Hoffman! There were some amazing golf shots witnessed out there. We very proud to have had two of our very own- Kristy Henry & Sharon Delorenzi , playing in this inaugural stand alone event for the Canadian Women’s Mid-Am Championship.
Our objective was “to create a great overall player experience” and that we did! Lots of very positive feed back from players as well as from our volunteers and spectators. As a proud member of Mad River, I think our reputation has always been pretty great…. we’ve just made it even better! These women, the finest women mid-amateur golfers across the country and various states in the U.S., guaranteed most certainly have gone home raving about Mad River and the hospitality and friendship they received.

Club Championship August 12-13
Registration is now open for this year’s version of Club C. We have decided to change things up this year to make it a little more fun for those of you that routinely, for unexplained reasons, manage to make a mess of a couple of holes. We will have four flights available for you to sign up for. The Championship Flight for the more skilled participants will compete from the Gold Tees.
The Blue tees will also be a stroke play event. This year’s Green and White tee event will be a Stableford event, which means you will be rewarded for your good holes, but not necessarily penalized so harshly for the two or three holes that you may have trouble with.
Participation is already looking good so jump in and register Gents!
This past week a number of us witnessed an unprecedented buzz around Mad River. The participants certainly delivered the excitement from the Golf end of things, and the members that volunteered should ALL be commended for their support in making the event such a success. As your Club Captain, I was very proud of our Men and Women members, that donated their time delivering snacks, spotting balls, parking lot details, driving the shuttle, caddy services and from the outset, raising sponsorships for the event.
I will take a shot in the dark and predict that this event reinforced, that Mad River is a premier golf facility in Canada, and many participants will be going back to the U.S. and their provinces and spreading the word!

FUN FOOD & BEVERAGE FACTS discovered at THE CANADIAN WOMEN’S MID-AM CHAMPIONSHIP
While hosting these amazing women, the Food &Beverage Team and Volunteers learned some things about these athletes.
- They LOVE Turkey and Swiss Sandwiches on white bread…we made more of these sandwiches in 2 days then we make in 1 month!
- They LOVE bananas and apples. We provided these yummy fruits at Holes #1 and #10 and went through 50 bunches of bananas (about. 270 bananas!) and 8 bags of apples (about 100 apples)
- They LOVE the ‘Drink of Summer’…Aperol Spritz! This refreshing beverage was the most popular post round drink. The ingredients include: Prosecco, Aperol, Soda Water and garnished with an orange slice. Super Tasty! Come in and try one! We have created a non-alcoholic version for those who prefer that as well.

JULES FABBRI
Playing with Elfie Alexander, Michael Minns and my wife Sonja, my game came together. However, as we were on the 14th hole the sky became dark and the rumbling started. I thought surely we were going to be called off the golf course and a potential personal great round of golf would not be finished. Hole by hole the rumbling continued and became stronger as we moved quickly in trying to finish. We had just finished on the 18th , put our clubs away, sat on the patio to order a beverage just as the sirens sounded and flooding rains started.
Somehow, I could not stop thinking of having some kind of luck from up above to allow me to finish with my personal best ever round of golf shooting par 72, which included a double bogey 6 on the 9th hole, and a short-missed birdie opportunity on the 18th as the rumbling above was quite the distraction.
Through the last few holes as we rushed to finish I couldn’t help thinking of the scene in the movie Caddy Shack when the bishop was golfing in the insane rain trying to finish his game with lightning and thunder coming down on him, and both himself and Bill Murray making their famous lines. It only took 14 years!!!
With a 3 on the 18th, JM can finally boast of having birdied every hole at Mad River (John’s wife Amy notes that he has remained suspiciously quiet about the fact that he achieved the same result in terms of having scored a double-bogey on every hole quite early into his time at the Club…).
