Project Update
The next two weeks will be an extraordinarily busy period for bunker work, with multiple crews in numerous locations.
Northgate Farms – Hole-by-hole bunker revitalization,

  • #7 – start bunker excavation
  • #10 – complete excavation, bunker drainage installation later this week or early next week
  • #13 – complete drainage and gravel, spray the Better Billy Bunker (BBB) polymer and install sand and sod at the end of this week
  • #15 – Complete sand installation this week, sod installation at the end of this week
  • #16 – started bunker drainage and will install gravel at the end of the week in preparation for BBB next week
  • #17 – install irrigation this week and sod installation on Friday.
The bunkers on #13, 15, and #17 are planned to be completed by the end of this week.
Over the rest of September in into October they will move to bunker work on #4, #3, #2, #8 and #9. At each stage the other crews will follow the excavation team, and they plan to complete the project and off site by the middle of November.
Whatever holes Northgate Farms are working on will either be closed, or play will be from temporary tees or to a temporary green.

Atkinson Irrigation – Hole-by-hole sprinkler installation,
  • #17 - will be completed this week.
  • #16 – is planned for next week and should be completed before the end of the week.
  • #15 – will be started as soon as #16 is completed.
  • #14 – is planned for the last week of the month

In October they hope to complete #13 and then move to the front nine, starting on #7, #5, #4. November will depend on the weather and temperatures, they will either continue with hole-by-hole work or if it’s too cold they will finish mainline installation on #3, #8, #2, #9 and #1. Any unfinished holes, the driving range and entrance road will be completed in 2026.

Whatever hole Atkinson are working on will be closed until completed.

I will continue to keep you informed through a couple videos each week and various other communications including the Project Information Board and in the Mad Post. I will also keep you informed of our performance against the budget.

Please continue to monitor the Project Information Board for the most up-to-date information.

My apologies for not including the winners on Aug 26th for the Eliminator game. Placing first was the team of Val Dyer, Judy Adams and Susan Portner. Closest to the Pin on #3 was Deborah Ise and Lauree Patrick on #7. Charlene Wildridge had the longest putt on hole # 9 but we are not sure about the length as no tape measure was available.

The team game last week was Red, White and Blue. If the flag was blue, your team counted 1 best net score, a white flag counted 2 best net scores, and the red flag meant you took 3 best net scores. Winning by 2 strokes was Laura Neves, Kim Edwards and Susan Quigley. Lorraine Strain was Closest to the Pin on #3 and Judy Adams on #14. No longest putt last week.

As you are reading this, we are in the midst of the second and final day of the MADheim event. Results to come next week.

A huge congratulations again to Team Canada for taking down this year’s Ryder Cup. I am sure each of you on the winning side have already tried on your new socks! We received a lot of great feedback on the new format, with each of the nines featuring different games and rotating tee decks, which was great to hear. It’s always nice when tweaks to a great event are well-received, and it is definitely one you won’t want to miss going forward!

This was also the last chance to score points in our Chase for the Creemore Cup. We had 187 golfers score points this year across the different events this season. The Top 16 have all received their exclusive invitations to the Creemore Cup, where they will compete in a team match play format followed by a celebratory dinner. For those wondering who qualified, the leaderboard is in most of our Golf Genius event portals, but those that played the most gravitated to the top of the leaderboard. The simplified points table, which matched how the teams scored points in the league, and double points for the two majors (Club Championship and Mad & Noisy) was well received and much easier to follow this year.

For those wondering, this trophy will not be treated like the original Open Championship prize, the Challenge Belt, when it was first created in 1860.

Transitioning into Autumn at Mad River

The beauty of autumn is beginning to show itself at Mad River—the colours are starting to change, creating even more breathtaking vistas across the course. The days are a little shorter, the pace a little gentler, and our season is gradually winding down.

Although we may appear less busy around the clubhouse, we are looking forward to some exciting events ahead including the Divorce Open and the Ladies’ and Men’s Finals which are followed by a year-end dinner to celebrate the season’s top scores. These gatherings are always a highlight—wonderful opportunities to come together, cheer one another on, and share in the camaraderie that makes Mad River so special.

Notes from the Chef Stephen Sagar

A Good Slice on the Course

I’ve always believed that golf is best enjoyed with good company—and maybe just a little something sweet on the side. Lately, both my cook Bailey and I have been having fun in the kitchen, taking the humble banana bread and giving it a few playful twists that I’d love to share with you.

Banana bread, at its heart, is simple and comforting—but that doesn’t mean it has to be predictable. I’ve started with a tried-and-true base recipe and then experimented with fresh add-ins to keep every loaf new and exciting. Strawberries bring a bright, summery sweetness, while pineapple adds a tropical lift. And I can promise you—when the first slice is still warm, it’s easy to take a mulligan.

To give the bread a touch more richness, I’ve been folding in sour cream or yogurt. This adds wonderful density and moisture that takes the texture to the next level, while balancing the sweetness of the fruit. The result is a loaf that feels both familiar and a little bit special.
