GM – Mad Post April 21 2022
I’ve included a brief update on a few key items that may be of interest to you as we prepare for the 2022 season.
We are now into our final preparations for opening day, staff orientations and safety training are occurring this weekend and we are tentatively scheduled for a May 3rd opening day.

Our 2022 season is right around the corner. Although Mother Nature is currently not cooperating, we can at least be happy that our opening will be much earlier than the previous two years. I think I speak for all my staff, and our members, when I say that we are all excited about the prospect of a more “normal” season ahead. The current pandemic is not over, however there is optimism that we are nearing the finish line.

I hope everyone had a wonderful winter despite the challenges that Covid continued to have on travel plans!

The spring has arrived, despite the recent wet snow flurries. Chad and crew continue to work hard at getting our course in shape for us to enjoy from the get go!

I hope you all had a great winter and were able to either travel south to work on your games or spend some quality learning time in the Trackman Simulator at the club.  As always, I spent my off season learning better ways to help you improve your game and I’m excited to be headed to the Titleist Performance Institute in Oceanside, CA the first week of June to once again spend time with some of the world’s top instructors including PGA Tour coaches Mark Blackburn, James Seickmann, and Dave Phillips.

I’ve been receiving plenty of messages from members asking if we will have some adult programs up and running after seeing the Junior Programs available.  I am excited to have this opportunity to get you better informed, so let’s get started.  I should add that this is just the beginning.  More offerings are set to launch in the weeks to come, so please stay tuned!

From Your Chef:

Hello Folks,

Many of you will know me from my time at the Terra Nova Public House where I created soups and unique weekly menus. I bring 35 years of culinary experience which includes working in fine dining restaurants to creating comfort food with a twist.  My wife Paige and I love the community of Creemore and have made it our home for over 20 years.  I look forward to bringing my fresh new ideas using local and in season ingredients to create dishes for the Mad River Membership.

Regards,
Chef Malcolm

WELCOME THESE NEW MEMBERS

GEORGE AND JOAN PENGELLEY

Joan and George have owned property in the Collingwood area for many years, originally to enjoy skiing and other winter activities. They soon discovered that they enjoyed summers in the area even more, with wonderful hiking, golf, and tennis. With George’s retirement from IBM in 1995, they moved from Toronto to their new home near Osler Ski Club.

They were founding members of the Georgian Bay Club, and have enjoyed 18 years there. The Collingwood area has proven to be very inclusive, and it was gratifying for them both to become involved in local volunteering activities, such as at the Collingwood General and Marine Hospital.

Mad River has always impressed us. It is one of the finest courses anywhere, and its relaxed, friendly atmosphere is immediately apparent when we were invited as guests. We know some wonderful Club members and are looking forward to seeing more of them as members, and making new friends too.

We have two children. Sharon and Matthew, both residing in Toronto, and three granddaughters, aged twenty-one, nineteen, and …. two!!

MIKE AND DIANE KNOWLTON

Mike and Diane have been retired for a number of years, locating from Toronto to Whistler BC where they built a beautiful mountain home shortly after Mike retired from his position as President of Dundee REIT.  They recently decided to move back to Toronto once they became grandparents for the second time.  They now split their time between their condo in Toronto and their new home in Collingwood where they enjoy the outdoor life in every way they can.

Mike and Diane have been enjoying playing golf for many years having been members of Thornhill G&CC in Toronto and Nicklaus North in Whistler.  Mike played Mad River 20 years ago and remembered what a beautiful and challenging course it was and is really looking forward to playing regularly with Diane.

TOM SCHMIDT & JOAN MACDONALD

Joan was first introduced to the Creemore area 22 years ago by her now husband Tom.  Tom's family purchased a wonderful property on 10 Hill (just minutes from Mad River) in 1965.  Tom has enjoyed this oasis from the city since his boyhood.

While Tom has known of Mad River since its inception, he was not a golfer, so it was their good friends Lisa & Jim Houston who introduced Joan to the course.  Facing empty nester status Joan decided to take the plunge and get a membership and much to her delight Tom has decided to try out the game!  Coming from a golfing family Joan is looking forward to making Mad River her home course and meeting new golfing friends.
