May 26

What a fantastic opening weekend, it was wonderful to see so many smiling faces again.
While we are only permitted to golf at the moment, we are hopeful that the pro shop and patio will be permitted to open, at limited capacities, by the middle of June.

OVERVIEW

The golf course is certainly showing signs that we have been in a long stretch without significant precipitation.  We are now getting close to the longest daylight hours of the year, keeping water on the course can be challenging.  Area’s that do go off colour or dormant, tops of mounds etc. will recover once adequate precipitation occurs. This time of year all grasses are programed to flower or seed, when this is occurring fine turf tends to have coarse leaf blades and stems.  This causes a lot of friction for putting surfaces and thus affects ball roll.

What a difference a week makes! A few days before the long weekend, we were all assuming that golf would remain closed until June 2nd. Instead, we received the announcement on Thursday we were all looking forward to, allowing us to open. For myself, one of the biggest challenges starting at a new Club is putting a face to a member name. It was great to spend a lot of time over the opening weekend on the first tee meeting everyone and start the process of developing those relationships.

Welcome Home, Members!
We have missed you!

It was so great to see you back playing golf. We opened our new concession, Cupp’s Corner, located on the west side of the clubhouse and our team was ready to serve you.  Thank you to those who came by to comment on the space, introduce yourself and pick up a sandwich to go.  We started with a few items like hot dogs and sandwiches but are happy to announce that we can now offer more items including the Club’s favourite, Chicken Caesar Wrap. For full offerings, please download the app.  Instructions are in the video here.

WELCOME THESE NEW MEMBERS!

Ted & Margaret Riley

Ted and Margaret Riley are newcomers to Dufferin County, having bought a property in
Mono about five years ago. Two of their three sons, James (left) and Brannan (right) have become enthusiastic golfers in the last couple of years (Hurray!).

They enjoy biking, good food, and of course a fine round of golf. Ted was a former senior executive at Alliance Atlantis Communications, and has travelled extensively throughout his 25 year career. Margaret was a school teacher for several years in Toronto and Scarborough in the Metro Separate School system.

James has just graduated from Queen’s and is working at the Main Branch of CIBC, while Brannan is completing his first year of a Master’s Program in Legal Studies at Carleton University after graduating from Queens.

The Rileys are looking forward to meeting new friends, and many “good walks spoiled”!

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
In addition to scoring a two on #9, Rick Hoffman shot a 74 - 1 under his age!
The feat was witnessed by Morley Arnason, Kent Taylor & Stewart Hamilton.
Rick hit a rope 5 iron straight at the pin on #9.  Truly an amazing shot.

1ST HOLE-IN-ONE OF THE YEAR
Congratulations to Andrew MacEachern on scoring the first hole in one of the season!  Hole #7 with a 50* wedge.  Witnessed by Paula Dunlop + Carrie Russell.
This is Andrew's second hole in one at Mad River!
