GM – Mad Post April 15th, 2021

On behalf of all the staff at Mad River I hope you and your families are doing well during this ongoing crisis. We are all anxious to see you and get the 2021 season started!
Weather permitting, we plan to open the course on Wednesday April 28th and the tee sheet for booking, starting on the 21st.
Last summer the pandemic clearly demonstrated how important golf was to our physical and mental well being. Despite the ups and downs over the past twelve months, we’ll be back onto the course and enjoying the Club and safely socializing with our friends again.

Golf Course Report - Spring 2021

Overview
The golf course has come through the winter season extremely well, all fine turf areas are very healthy, and free from either damage caused by ice or snow mould, coming out of the winter season. We encountered significant snow mould pressure this season, likely due to the fact that the ground never really froze prior to being insulated by significant snow cover. Untreated areas in our rough were hit hard by snow mould, we expect these areas will make a full recovery.

Golf Operations Update - Head Professional Carl Penfold

The Masters concluded on Sunday with Hideki Matsuyama winning by one shot over Will Zalatoris. Hideki becomes the first Japanese born male to win a major championship. This is a great accomplishment for himself and Japan, it is hard not to draw comparison to Mike Weir’s victory in 2003 when he had the entire country pulling for him.
There were 61 entries into the Mad River Majors Pool this weekend. Of the 61 entries, only 4 members had Hideki on their team. Congratulations to Tom Reeve for winning this weekends pool. Not only did Tom have Hideki, he also picked Will Zalatoris to finish with a team total of 26 under par! Finishing in second place was David Allen at -21. Rounding out the top three was Charles Magwood at -20.
Congratulations to our winners in the pool this weekend. A reminder that the PGA Championship will be played May 20
th – 23
rd at Kiawah Island. If you would like to join the pool, please contact Carl in the Golf Shop.

Membership Director - Sandy Higgins

Opening day is fast approaching and the excitement is in the air! Each member exchange is charged with the possibilities that another golf season brings forth.
As a Club we are grateful that golf is a permitted activity during the pandemic. While Mad River has successfully completed its membership drives over the past two years, and excelled to have a wait list of more than 50 potential new members, we acknowledge that not every sport has been as fortunate during these unusual times. We are especially thankful for the opportunity to enjoy a round of golf with family and fellow members in our breathtakingly beautiful surroundings here at the Mad.

Men's Captain Report - Pierre Lemaire

Welcome back everyone!
For those of us who stayed in Ontario this past winter, we are even more excited than usual to get back to playing golf on our wonderful course, late April.
As many of you will recall, in a normal year, we would have a Men’s Opening Day with a breakfast and presentation of new members and the itinerary of the events for the season, however, this year we must adhere to the government regulations and guidelines to keep us all safe. May I remind you that during COVID time, the different health measures are absolutely mandatory; mask, social distance, frequent hand washing or the use of hand sanitizer.
