Driving Range and Golf Course Opening
After a long difficult April, we’re pleased to get onto the driving range this weekend and the golf course on May 8th. The course wintered beautifully and spring conditions will be excellent.
We’re pleased to get our irrigation contractor on site this week laying the mainline for the irrigation system to the driving range and 10, 11, 12 “loop”. This early start will mean no disruption across the driving range later this summer. Once this task is completed, we won’t see them again until July.

Cleanup efforts following the ice storm are progressing well overall, as we stated in previous updates, it was the sheer volume of the trees and branches that were down that was the biggest challenge. The golf course maintenance team have done a huge amount of work despite some minor setbacks due to intermittent poor weather. We have made significant strides in clearing downed limbs and debris across most areas of the course and after 4 straight weeks of cleaning up and chipping, there appears to be light at the end of the tunnel. We would like to thank all the members that came out last week to help with raking and clean-up, your efforts are certainly appreciated!
One continuing challenge involves broken branches lodged high in tree canopies, which are difficult to access and remove safely. These will require specialized equipment and some additional time to address fully. We have a contractor onsite for the next few days, climbing certain trees to remove any branches that are stuck in trees and deemed hazardous. We are now finally dry enough in most areas of the property to access with the equipment necessary to clean up the remaining trees, most of which are located on the back nine ie. Left side of 13 and 15 and right side of 17.
Fortunately, the persistently cool weather has delayed grass growth, which has not forced us to change direction until very recently. This has allowed us to stay focused on the clean up rather than having to shift direction and take care of pressing issues like irrigation start up or mowing.

With the revised opening date, I’d like to clarify our upcoming events.
On Saturday, May 10th the All Members Opening (Ladies and Men) shotgun has been changed to a 9:00am start. An hour earlier than posted last week. We hope the new date and timing will work for you. If for some reason it no longer works for your schedule, please edit your registration online or call the proshop to cancel. This will assist the proshop staff making the draw and help avoid any confusion for the players and teams.
Three days later, we have our Ladies Opening Shotgun on May 13th. The shotgun starts at 10:00am and registration will begin at 8:30am. Our hope is to begin our information session at 8:45am and have you hitting a few practice balls and putts by 9:30am then head out to your starting hole by 10:00am. In an ideal world this sounds good, so we’ll do our best. If you haven’t signed up, we hope you will.

Notes from the Chef Stephen Sagar
I cannot express how excited I am to see and meet everyone at Mad River. Apart from getting the kitchen ready and meeting the incredible staff, my first few weeks at Mad River has been an absolute pleasure. I have introduced the new menu to everyone and it has been met with constructive criticism and enthusiasm. I am looking forward to bringing my skills and introducing everyone to many of my recipes and dishes.

Team Amazing!
A huge thank you goes out to Lane, Luke, and Kelly who volunteered to cleaned up the range in anticipation of its opening on May 3rd. Couldn't have done it without you! Look at that incredible haul, most of the balls were imbedded in the turf. Remember yellow range balls? It's been years. Great job!
