GM – Mad Post May 7th, 2021

The AGM was held this past weekend, congratulations to incoming Directors Charlene Wildridge and Brian Koturbash on their election to the Board.
Also, please take a moment to thank Carrie Russell and Tony Viner for their service over these past three years. The Club is better for having the collective knowledge, insight and business experience both brought to the Club.

Volunteerism at private clubs is so vital and yet often underappreciated. Board and Committee help to govern the Club as well as organize and assist to generate participation in golf and social events to create a vibrant atmosphere. We recognize these individuals in various ways throughout the Club, but there are always unsung heroes that are missed.

WELCOME THESE NEW MEMBERS!

Joe Duz

Joe first played Mad River 20 years ago with member Paul Wildridge.  Joe and Paul knew each other as both are long time golf members at Weston in Toronto.  Joe also had another opportunity to play Mad River with Andrew MacEachern, a Mad River member as well as a business colleague of Joe.   The golf course and the area made a lasting impression.

Fast forward 20 years, and upon recently selling his medical/pharmaceutical education business, Joe and his family, wife Erin and kids Jake (22) and Logan (19), began to look for opportunities to spend time during the summer months outside Toronto.

As the family began to look at locations outside the city, Mad River (Joe and Jake are avid golfers, Erin and Logan are part-time golfers, but are keen on many other outdoor activities) and the Creemore area was quickly circled on the map.

The family will be renting a place just outside of Creemore and they are looking forward to enjoying a considerable amount of time outside of Toronto this summer.  They are excited about golfing at Mad River and meeting the other members of the club.

Domenic Crignano

Domenic Crignano is a real estate developer and builder from Toronto currently working at a firm founded by his father Sam and mother Maria. Domenic lives in Toronto with his wife Kristyn, and they thoroughly enjoy (pre-covid) life in the city but look forward to retreating to Sam and Maria’s country home in Mulmur currently under construction and nearing completion.
Domenic has always had a deep admiration of Tiger Woods and attributes his interest in golf entirely to Tiger. His love of golf developed early as he learned to play at a young age at Richmond Hill Country Club and took part in the junior program at Uplands Golf and Ski Club in Thornhill. Domenic participated in several GAO and CJGA tournaments as a junior and qualified for the 2006 GAO Ontario Junior Boys Championship when he dragged his father up to Whitewater in Thunder Bay to witness a few bad rounds and a missed cut. Domenic was a ClubLink member for several years where he accidentally flipped a golf cart and has the battle scars to prove it. Most recently he was an intermediate member at the National Golf Club of Canada in Vaughan.
Domenic values his family and looks forward to having his sisters Sara and Bianca, brothers in law Tony, Massimo, and Nick, and mother-in-law Penny either on the course or enjoying drinks and conversation on the patio. A personal mission founded by family, friends, and associates in 2017, The Blu Genes Foundation (www.blugenes.org) is very close to Domenic’s heart. Domenic and the Crignano Family are members at Osler Bluff Ski Club, enjoy heli-skiing in Western Canada and are avid road and gravel cyclists.

Nigel & Melissa Fonseca
Nigel and Melissa acquired a second home in the Town of Blue Mountains just as the pandemic hit in early 2020.   “We are still looking forward to spending our weekends with friends and family in the region and of course, golfing and connecting with the Mad River family!”
Nigel is a professional engineer with a career spent in the energy and finance sectors.   He had the good fortune to lead an exceptional team and guide the company through its growth and eventual acquisition.  He currently serves as an SVP and member of the management team.  Melissa continues her rewarding career educating, challenging and inspiring young minds as an elementary teacher in York Region. The Fonseca’s have two children; Cassondra (a Queen’s engineer) who in addition to her day job, founded Camp Engies, a not-for-profit, inspiring girls to connect and unleash their potential in engineering; Graham (a Western engineer) who recently completed his MASc in Biomedical Engineering and now serves as Business Unit Lead for IIoT in Vancouver.
Good things come to those who wait and now it seems we are waiting yet again…. Looking forward to meeting everyone soon!

Dr. Hans Harlos and his son Nic

Hans is a general practitioner servicing the people of Collingwood and surrounding area since 1981. His office is located in Elmvale where he is the only physician.  Remarkably Dr. Harlos recently delivered a baby whose mother he also delivered; the life of a small town doctor really does come full circle!

A true athlete, Hans enjoys all sports, he is an avid skier, hiker, golfer, tennis player, and formidable squash player.  He is looking forward to spending time at the club with his Mad River friends and his awesome son Nic.

Nic Harlos is equally sports minded and he is excited to spend time at the club with his friends and his dad if he can get him to slow down long enough to play a round golf.  Nic is a local contractor/carpenter in the Collingwood area for over 10 years. Before that he spent his time snowboarding and wakeskating professionally. Nic is looking forward to teaching his daughters LooLoo and Gypsy the game of golf.
