GM – Mad Post June 17 2021

Opening the patio last weekend was another welcome step back to normalcy at the Club. It was an active weekend on the course, on the driving range with three fit days and on the patio.
While the tee sheet has been busy, the adjustments we’ve made to start times and intervals are working well and it’s resulting in available times on the sheet everyday. As a result, later this month you can expect modifications to our walk-ons, guest policies as well as additional services and amenities to come online.

The drinking water well pump is currently down, as our water well is being worked on again today, we will keep you appraised of the situation as updates present. While we have someone working on the the system, we have no specific timeline for a resolution to the problem, until resolved we have no water.

This means no bathrooms in the clubhouse, on course washrooms are available for use during your round.  Two "luxury" portable washrooms are now located on the westside of the clubhouse for use as well.  Due to health regulations, prepared F&B items are being made at Otta's restaurant and delivered to the Club daily and can be enjoyed post round on the patio, but  the club can only offer limited menu items until the water situation is resolved.  Bottled drinks are also available, no draft products at this time.

Please plan accordingly,

Thank you,
Gary Ward,
GM/COO

Now that the season is in full swing, the pro shop has been receiving a lot of questions about how to post scores. The computer for posting scores in the clubhouse is still not available due to covid, therefore members must post their scores on their computer at home or by using their mobile device via the Golf Canada app. If you are having issues getting set up for posting scores, please speak with one of the golf professionals. I should also point out that the pro shop staff will be posting all scores for weekly league play when the format permits.

In an effort to limit stray shots from #12 tee box the gold and blue tee markers will be moved up to the back of the green tee box and the green marker will be moved up to the front of the green tee box. We are noticing more errant tee shots this year and we will be trying a number of strategies in the coming weeks to mitigate this situation. For those that do have a tendency to miss shots to the right, we ask that you please excercise a conservative approach that encourages accuracy on this hole.

The Art of Practice with Fred Shoemaker
Submitted by Ryan Rinneard

Each year I attempt to bring a celebrity coach to Mad River to expose the members to some of the top minds in golf instruction.  With the pandemic, this has been a challenge.

For the past two seasons, my goal was to have Fred Shoemaker, author of Extraordinary Golf and Extraordinary Putting, and the founder of the Extraordinary Golf School in Carmel, CA, here at Mad River, but...logistics.

Last season, Fred was kind enough to offer his time to our membership and do a 1hour Zoom call on the Art of Practice.  Below is the link to that Zoom call, or it can be found on our website (not the app) under Golf Lessons – The Art of Practice with Fred Shoemaker.

Please watch the video here .  Fred is an Extraordinary person.

What a weekend and beginning of the patio season! Fantastic to see many members out to enjoy a beverage along with our newly added menu items. One popular item is the Mushroom and Goat Cheese Dumplings. Rave reviews all around. A great item to share or to have all to yourself. The Food & Beverage team were excited to start serving you table side and we thank you for your patience as we continue to learn the menu and work on speed of service.

Hello Everyone, Another week in paradise, now including the patio and pro shop access!!! Back by popular request, “The Bounty Ball Prize”. Each Tuesday .50c will be set aside from the $5.00 entry fee to go towards the Bounty Prize. The Pro Shop picks the hole and best net score for the hole wins the prize. No ties, otherwise the pot will be held over until the following week.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE WEEK
HOLE IN ONE - June 10

ELFIE ALEXANDER on #7
It was on the 7th hole and Elfie’s 5th hole in one!

As playing partner Jules Fabbri noted "For those that played at Mad today they will know how devilish the Blue pin placement on the 7th hole was with it on the very furthest left corner. The rest of us all rolled it off the back but Elfie found a way to hit a nice little draw into the green and the ball tracked all the way into the cup!! So cool to watch it all the way into the hole".

Elfie used a pitching wedge for the shot and interestingly, at the start of her round, she had forgotten her pitching wedge at the clubhouse. Mark Bullen drove it out to her just in time! "Mark deserves half the credit" noted Elfie!

Sonja Fabbri and Michael Minns also witnessed this great shot.

Congratulations Elfie!

HOLE IN ONE - June 12

CAM FOWLER recorded our 3rd hole in one of the season.  All three Holes-in-Ones have been on #7!
It was Cam's first hole in one and he hit a pitching wedge from the blue tees!

"It may never happen again, but I sure enjoyed it"

Congratulations Cam on your first ACE!
