Play More. Train Smarter. Improve for Real.  PLUS A 30 Minute Putting Practice Plan!

One of the biggest myths in golf is that improvement comes only from time on the range. But if I’ve learned anything from coaching dedicated players over the years, it’s this:

Real progress happens when you combine playing more golf with purposeful training.

You learn a lot on the golf course—about your tendencies, your decision-making, and how you respond under pressure. But to fix what shows up out there, you need time off the course where you can break things down, train new skills, and rebuild them with confidence.

And let’s be clear: we’re not “practicing” anymore—we’re training. Training is about focused, intentional reps with a specific purpose. It’s about developing the shots you want to taketo the course, not just hitting balls and hoping something sticks.

And it’s not about endlessly searching for the one secret that will magically make it all click—that rabbit hole leads to confusion, not clarity. The real solution is building a set of reliable skills you can trust when it counts and discovering your tendencies that are leading to your inconsistencies.

This season, if you’re serious about getting better, I challenge you to do both:
– Play more. Test yourself in real conditions.
– Train smarter. Learn new shots. Build real skill.

If you’re not sure where to start, let’s put a plan together. I’ll help you find the right balance between playing, training, and progressing.

As we're hitting full stride this golf season, there's a lot coming up quickly on the calendar! Don't forget to sign up for upcoming events like our Club Championship on July 12-13. All event details can be found on our Event Directory, accessible from our site or linked right here.

Today, I want to highlight the Mad & Noisy, the only other event besides the Club Championship that offers double Creemore Cup points! A club’s member-member event should be a true marquee event, and this year, we're making sure it is. I’ve been working closely with our next Captain, Dean Elliott, and the Pro Shop to really elevate this year’s event on Thursday, August 7.

Recap of our Rustic Tuscan Dinner, Between the Vines and Flavoured Water at the Bar
Last Thursday, 26 members joined us in the sunroom to for our Rustic Tuscan Dinner. We started the evening with a shared platter of three different types of Arancini (Mushroom, Zucchini and Caprese) served with a Bolognese. The main entre had a choice of a veal chop or turkey parmesan and we finished the evening with a house made Tiramisu. The members thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the food. Thank you to Chef Stephen and his team for creating such a delicious meal. The suggested wine pairings were our Jasci Pecorino and Chianti both offered on our wine list by the glass or bottle. Below are descriptions for this week’s “Between the Vines”

Between the Vines

Jasci Pecorino d’Abruzzo 2024: Located on the hills that rise from the Adriatic Sea and neighbouring the coastal town of Vasto in Abruzzo, the Jasci family has been growing grapes and producing wine for three generations. This vegan-certified wine made from Pecorino grapes is elegant and delicate, and shows aromas of grapefruit, apricots and nectarines. On the palate is pleasant, fresh and light-bodied. This Pecorino wine has a special saltiness and an aftertaste of bitter almonds. It pairs extremely well with Pecorino cheeses drizzled with a bit of honey as well as vegetables, fish and white meats.

Chianti 2021, Fattoria Ormanni: The 13th Century Ormanni estate is located in the heart of Chianti, between the towns of Poggibonsi and Castellinai. For the last 200 years, the estate has been owned by the Brini Batacchi family who has been producing true expressions of what the region has to offer. A bright and savoury expression of Sangiovese (95%) and Merlot (5%); the wine is filled with tart and ripe cherries, red currents and gooseberries. There are notes of black tea, snap twig, leather and cured meat to perfectly complement the fruit. The wine is dry, medium bodied, with nicely integrated tannins and refreshing acidity. A versatile wine to pair with food like cured meats, pasta with Bolognese and pecorino cheese.

Notes from the Chef Stephen Sagar

Recently, I was offered a compliment for the 'Soup of the Moment' which was a Mushroom Barley Soup. It was earnest and appreciated. This is a great opportunity to provide thanks to all the members who have been so welcoming and forthcoming with their compliments and feedback on some of the changes Michelle and I have brought for the 2025 season.

CONGRATULATIONS HENRY!
