This week the Ladies Madheim Cup and Collingwood General and Marine Hospital events take place. This year these two events signal the completion of the final major events of the season on our calendar, and with the course in such beautiful condition, we expect an active fall of golf.

Thus far, 2023 has been a busy season, our member rounds are up about 3% from 2022. This is consistent with what we are seeing Provincially and Nationally this summer. Many had expected golf activity to decrease slightly from 2022, but this has not been the case.

We’ve posted record sales in both the golf shop and food and beverage operations this year, thank you for your ongoing support. Membership re-sales are tracking to annual norms (12-15 annually) and interested prospects continue to join the wait list.

I will provide a financial review of our season to date over the next couple of Mad Post articles.

Last year, on June 7th, an email was sent to the membership presenting an opportunity to travel to the south of Ireland. Even though the initial communication was sent 15 months ago, the trip was planned more than two years ago. In the fall of 2021, our Club President at the time, Bob Cook, met with me to initially propose the idea of organizing this trip. I was fully supportive and grateful that Bob offered to include me with the group. I have travelled with members in the past and cannot think of a better way to connect with each other by sharing this memorable experience together.

To the generous members of Mad River,

We were lucky enough to be chosen as the charitable beneficiary of your Women’s Charity Tournament this year and we had such a fabulous day with you all on August 28!  My Friend’s House would like to extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all who participated and donated.  Our shelter is responsible for raising half of our operating dollars each year, a total of about $750,000 this year, which is no small feat in these small communities.  Each of these fundraisers goes a long way to helping us reach our goal and being able to keep our shelter operating, our programs running and more women and children supported in South Georgian Bay.  In 2022, we received over 3900 calls to our 24/7 Crisis Line, so the need for our services is great.  The Women’s Charity golf day raised $20,711 for My Friend’s House and we are so incredibly appreciative.  Thank you again to all who joined in or donated.

If you missed participating but would like to donate, you can still do so here: Donate Now - My Friend's House (canadahelps.org)

With Gratitude,

The Team at My Friend’s House

We are winding down to the final 6 weeks of the golf season at Mad. Chef and I are happy to say that we have had an amazing season with our team and the feedback we have received from all of you has been great. Our weekly features have been successful and based on your feedback, we will be adding some of these items on next year’s menu. Thank you.
