At the Annual General Meeting this past Saturday, the nominees for the Board of Directors were all unanimously approved. Yvonne Penning and Rob Franklin were elected to three-year terms as new directors, Laleah Macintosh and Jaime Hugessen were both re-elected to three-year terms and David Seville was re-elected to a one-year term.

Brian Swales and Anne Marie O’Donovan both concluded their terms on the board. Brian completed six years of exceptional board service, in his time on the board he served in numerous roles, chaired Governance and Nominating and his efforts revitalized our committee and board volunteer pipeline. He was integral to the development of the financial modelling that the members approved last fall for the upcoming course enhancement projects.

Anne Marie O’Donovan served on Finance and Audit for four years and chaired F&A for the past two years. Her financial expertise was instrumental in successfully guiding the Club through the prioritizing and planning phase of the enhancement projects. Her extensive board experience was also invaluable in the communication and presentations at the Town Halls meetings and Special Member meeting last fall.

On behalf of the board, it’s my privilege to thank them for their service, the Club has benefitted greatly from their contributions.

The golf course has been very slow to wake up due to the very cold conditions so far this spring, it will be nice to get some warmer temperatures to get some growth on our bentgrass surfaces in the week ahead.  At this time of year all grass is trying to produce seed in some way, this generally makes things slow and bumpier than normal, we are right at the beginning of this cycle, this will last for the next couple of weeks.  We will be lowering our height of cut on greens and focusing on our leaf texture on putting surfaces over the next few weeks as well.

Aeration has been completed and has started to heal nicely, weather did not allow topdressing to take place, this will occur a little later in the season.

Our poa patrol will be out in full force this week, this will continue over the next several weeks.  This is an important part of our spring cultural process, please be aware of this process as you make your way around the course.

It was a great turnout for the All Member Opening Shotgun.  Despite the weather app saying it would be a high of 13, it turned out to a warm glorious day. 34 ladies attended and congratulations to the winning teams.

The first Ladies Tuesday is today! There is much information to pass along. The schedule for the Tuesday games and description of each game will be on the weekly invitation. It is also posted outside the Proshop on the bulletin board. The weekly invitation will ask if you would like to play 9 or 18 holes. There is a growing group of ladies who would like to play 9 holes on Tuesday Ladies Day and so we are hopeful they will click the ‘YES’ button for ‘Playing’ and join. If you are playing 9 holes, the tee times will start approx. between 10:00-11:00am. This will vary depending on how many ladies (playing both 9 and 18) sign up. The cost for playing 18 holes remains at $6 and those playing 9 will be charged $3. All ladies will participate in the closest to the pin contest on the front nine. If you happen to be a winner, you’ll automatically qualify for the shootout (chipping off the deck to the 9th hole) on Closing Day!

What a wonderful weekend!
It was heartening to see the excitement of our Members returning to play the game they love and reconnecting with familiar faces in the Food & Beverage department. The team was truly delighted to interact with the membership once again and provide the service they’re passionate about.

This season, we are committed to elevating every experience—delivering consistently friendly and helpful service, while expediting exceptional meals and refreshing beverages for all who come to enjoy our little piece of paradise.

Notes from the Chef Stephen Sagar

Happy continued Spring everyone. Thank you to everyone who came out to the Mother’s Day Brunch. It was an honour to provide the offerings at the brunch and I do hope everyone who came enjoyed themselves. I was asked by a handful of members about how I prepared the roast beef. The cut was a whole striploin and it was grilled then roasted. The key to most roasts is to NOT cover them and, depending on the size, slow and low roasting. For example, when roasting a whole turkey, season accordingly and appropriately on the skin. We have been brining the turkey breasts in a bay leaf saline solution for 24 hours, then roasting whole uncovered for approximately 70 minutes. This provides a caramelization of the poultry and/or beef to create a delicious crust on the exterior of the cut. Then allowed to rest for at least 15 – 20 minutes before cutting into the turkey. I hope you all get a chance to try our new Turkey Avocado Wrap with Tarragon Mayo.
