On Friday, August 20
th, an errant shot from the 18
th hole struck a member’s car in the parking lot. The windshield was severely damaged by the impact, which required it to be replaced. This is very unfortunate and frustrating for the member who was inconvenienced by this situation. What is more unfortunate is that no one has come forward at this point to identify themselves as the player who hit the shot. The pro shop has sent multiple emails and made phone calls to any player with a tee time between 7:30am and 10:30am with no success. I feel it is important to remind all members that they have coverage for this as part of their Golf Canada membership. The insurance provided with your membership provides coverage up to $1,000 towards the cost of repairing or replacing a window, including car windshield. However, in order to submit a claim, we need to know who hit the shot. If we do not get that information, we cannot proceed with the insurance coverage. The result is the member whose car was hit, is left to cover the damages through their own insurance or out of pocket. Therefore, I am asking one more time, if you hit a ball in the parking lot on Friday, August 20
th between 10am – 2:30pm, please send me an email or give me call. The name of the player will be kept confidential. Moving forward, please keep this in mind if you, or anyone in your group hits a shot in the direction of the parking lot. Bad shots happen all the time and that is just part of the game that we accept. Not reporting this to the pro shop and leaving a fellow member in this unfair position however is not acceptable.

Hello Everyone,
Hard to believe it’s September already!! We still have lots of golf left - 8 more weeks. It’s been great to have Shot Gun starts the past two Tuesdays and be able to meet and chat all together after play. Remember on Ladies Tuesdays to bring your $5 cash entry fee in lieu of charging your account. This will be a huge time saver for accounting!
The signup for Member Member , Sept 7, and Madheim, Sept 13 & 14 is now waitlist only. After these events there are 3 Tuesdays left Sep 21, 28 & Oct 5. Games will be announced next week.
Ladies Single Match Play Semi Finals are in progress
Hilarie Woods vs Shiela Kaarlela and Sharon Delorenzi (Semi Final Winner) vs Catherine Sendell
Ladies Four Ball Match Play Quarter Final Results
Donna Cummings & Catherine Sendell(6 qualifying points)
vs Susan Little & Jan Atkinson Hall (6 1/2 qualifying points & Quarter Final Winners)
Semi Final Results
Charlene Wildridge & Lauree Patrick , the number one seed with 7 1/2 points overall in their qualifying grid were taken out by Susan Little & Jan Atkinson Hall.
Hilarie Woods & Susanna Lundstrom vs Denise Loft & Susan Quigley (Winners) Both pairs were equally matched with 7 qualifying points in their respective grids.
I think all match play participants would agree the matches although challenging have been fun at the same time. A great way to focus and work on your game. Finals to be played by September 21.

If my foursome gets the first time on Sunday mornings, we usually play 18 in about three hours. When I tell most people this, they say, “Wow! You play fast.” (At least in North America.)
My response is, “No, we play efficiently.” There’s lots of advice available online on how to play more quickly (efficiently) so I leave that to you to check out. Lord knows, I’ve written about myself ad infinitum.
To me, “efficient golf” means taking most, if not all, of that advice and combining it with some other vital components to make the complete “responsible golfer.”
What makes a responsible golfer? In the interest of gaining the widest possible perspective, I threw that question out on Twitter.

There are a lot of different ways to hold a golf club and golfers are given endless advice as to how to hold the club, but the question I rarely hear answered is Why? Why do I need to hold it that way and how does it affect my game?

30th Anniversary Party
Despite the rain threatening to postpone the Club’s 30
th Anniversary party, it stopped just before 5 p.m. allowing those in attendance to enjoy the evening and celebrate yet another milestone in Mad River’s history.
Thank you to Stephen Headford for his role as the Master of Ceremonies for the 30
th Anniversary Sweepstakes Draw. Steve spoke to the difficulties of attracting new members over the last few years that resulted in the two very successful back-to-back marketing campaigns.
Steve’s ability to capture the spirit of Mad River in his lead up to the 30
th Anniversary Sweepstakes Draw was both factual and entertaining. The lucky winners were drawn by Tony Viner, Bob Cook and Judy Simmonds.
The three lucky members participated in the ‘Drive to 35’ and ‘Tee it Up in 2020’ promo by introducing a new member during the two membership campaigns.
The winners of the 30
th Anniversary Sweepstakes Draw are as follows:
Grand Prize – no annual dues 2022 for the entire family
David Seville
2nd Prize – No annual dues 2022 for Regular & Associate Member
Liz Hoffman
3rd Prize – No annual dues 2022 for Regular Member
Steve Assaff
